Description
Over time, hearing aid tubes can become brittle and harden. This can be caused by oil from the skin or other products that are used. It is therefore highly recommended to change the tubing on a regular basis in order to keep it free from wax, debris, and moisture so sound can travel through the tube and into the ear.
DIY: Changing Your Hearing Aid Tube
You can change the tube yourself at home, but you may require extra tools to help with the job. Tube threaders and tube expanders can be purchased separately, or purchase the complete tube change kit ensuring the tube is replaced securely and correctly each time.
The video below was created by our sister company, Hear4U, which beautifully demonstrates the process:
Types of Tubing:
- Pre-Bent High Quality Tubing
- Moisture Free Tubing – Moisture-free tubing is softer than other types of tubing and is good for avoiding water droplets from forming in the tube. These come in a pack of 5 and two different sizes, medium or thick wall.
Sizes of Tubing:
The size of the tubing refers the thickness of the tube wall itself, we recommend getting in touch with your audiologist if you’re unsure on which you require. The usual rule of this tubing is if you have a higher level of hearing loss, a thicker wall is usually best.
- Standard Tube Wall approx. 0.5mm thickness
- Medium Tube Wall approx. 0.8mm thickness
- Thick Tube Wall approx. 1mm thickness
Each tube comes in the same length, approx. 11cm. The difference in size relates to the thickness of the tubing wall itself.

I bought the heavy grade of tubing . As with the hot weather condensation forms in the cheaper grades ..thus causing blockage problems , and having to constantly ” blow out ”
This is pre bent tubing , and helpfully sliced to a pointed end to make it easier to insert into the ear mold .
I am very happy with the performance . Although more expensive , they are well worth thd money .
Arrived quickly . No issues .
Will buy again .

The different wall thickness allows for a tighter fit in ear moulds that are beginning to age, being pre-bent allows for simple fitting into ear moulds and easier length adjustment for fitting hearing aid to ear mould tube
